About the Author
Nicola Mandorino was born in Taranto, Italy in 1963. He started studying the piano at the age of 14 and also began teaching himself the guitar. After a short period of study with the classical guitar, he discovered that the playing style used with this instrument had a close relationship to that method of playing used in jazz and fingerpicking. He expanded his knowledge by listening to and studying the recordings of the most well known guitarists and by attending numerous courses and master classes. In 1986 he started a long concert career as a guitarist of many jazz styles. He worked intently at improving the technique of fingerstyle jazz and continued the study of advanced technical fingerpicking. With the wealth of experience and knowledge accumulated over the years, in 1992 he began working as an instructor teaching modern jazz guitar, blues and fingerpicking. He also taught many basic courses for those of entry skill level. He gradually abandoned the traditional methods of teaching and began to develop his own methods that were more modern and closer to the real interests of his students. These methods are proving to be very effective and hundreds of students over the years have enrolled in his courses. His teaching methods make learning to play the guitar fun and help students develop a passion for their instrument. Currently, he is a teacher of modern guitar at the Music Learning Centre and at several Italian musical associations in the province of Taranto, Italy. His courses help his students maintain a high level of interest and participation. Simultaneously, he continues to play concerts for the public by offering a repertoire of songs consisting of fingerpicking, jazz, country, bluegrass and Irish folk.

I bought this for my daughter that is going into 2nd grade as a summer review. About 3/4 of the book was good toward the end it got to hard and she had not been taught some of the things in 1st grade. It's relatively cheap so it wasn't a bad purchase.

As much as I understand the need for repetitiveness, this book could use a bit more variation to keep a child's interest, but the layout is great, the instructions are clear, and I love that the pages can be ripped out. For the price, totally worth it! Overall my kid likes it and is learning from it!

Wonderful book with colorful pages, great price and great practice for adding and subtracting

Bought for our 5 year old going into first grade to keep up with her reading during summer. Great lessons and are hard enough to be challenging for her but not too hard that it is frustrating for her.

Ordered this to do some work with my six year old. On the second page, first page dealing with subtraction, there was an equation where the answer was a negative number. Seems that would be more appropriate for later down the road and definitely with some explanation.

I don’t think they should be learning negatives at this point! 4 pages in total like the images I am posting. None of the answers are right at the back of the book for these subtraction pages. Very confusing to my son, had him move to another book. Will use it for addition, can’t go wrong there! Will not go with this company again.

I bought this for my daughter who is a first grader. I love it. It challenges her, it gives her the correct instructions and she can work on her own when I am not around. I usually give her 2 pages of homework a day. I really like specially because children have no homework any more.

If you want to really help your child get ahead in classstart them with this Math book. It does a really great job of doing a flexible process of working on simple along with difficultissues in a good rhythm of repetition.

Burt Dow, Deep Water-man (1963) was the last book written by children's author and illustrator Robert McCloskey. Burt Dow is a retired fisherman living with his sister and his pet, the Giggling Gull, on the Maine coast. In the story, loosely based on the encounter of the whale in the Book of Jonah, Burt and the Giggling Gull, are fishing in Burt's only working boat, the Tidely-Idley, when a storm blows up. Burt shelters from the storm in the belly of a whale he has recently befriended, along with the Tidely-Idley and the Giggling Gull. Once the storm is over, he is faced with the problem of how to extricate himself from the whale. Burt, ever resourceful, splashes left over boat paint and sediment sludge on the walls of the whale's stomach, provoking cetacean indigestion and a rapid expulsion from the whale. The book is illustrated in vivid water color. The inside of the whale's belly is a brilliant, strawberry pink. In addition, the scene with the paint splashes is reminiscent of paintings by Jackson Pollock. Many of the characters in this book are based on real people who lived in the community of Deer Isle, Maine, where McCloskey wrote many of his books. The real Bert Dow is buried in a Deer Isle cemetery. His tombstone, which McCloskey helped to fund, reads "Bert Dow, Deep Water Man, 1882-1964".
